July Wrap Up !!

Hello bookish people !!

It’s the 6th of August, so wishing all you book lovers a happy friendship day !! Go hug and wish your books on my behalf. I’m currently facing a slump. Not just a reading slump but a life slump. I don’t feel like doing ANYTHING. Hence, I haven’t been commenting on anyone’s posts. I haven’t even read all the posts. I will get to them when I can.

The slump is also the reason this post is slightly late. I wanted to put up a review of The Vegetarian, but I haven’t written it down. I also realised I haven’t done a wrap-up post for July, though I did put it up on instagram (did you notice that my instagram pics are now displayed here as well ? no ? well, I just told you !). So decided to post my July wrap up today.

Here are the books I read in July –

Career Of Evil by Robert Galbraith 

Genre : Crime fiction  Page count : 512

It’s the third book of the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling).

Looking for the Rainbow by Ruskin Bond

 

This was a short memoir by author Ruskin Bond of the time spent with his father. I got this in a subscription box (find the unboxing post here) and I absolutely adored this  book. The book also has beautiful illustrations.

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

 

Yes I know it’s a classic children’s book but I had never read it. So I was glad to receive the penguin V&A edition of this book in the TBB subscription box.

I thoroughly enjoyed and loved reading this book. I wonder why I never came across it as a child. I’m so glad to finally have read it. Better late than never, right ?

 
Confessions of a book lover by Ruskin Bond

 

This is an anthology and what a lovely addition to my list of non-fictions this year !! It’s quite literally a list of book recommendations. Ruskin Bond recounts some of his most memorable reads from various places and shelves over the years. The book also contains excerpts from the books mentioned. It made for a lovely read and added more books to my never-ending TBR list.

The Vegetarian by Han Kang 

Well, this was quite a unique read. Don’t go by the small page count. It was weird, terrifying, saddening, disturbing and beautiful at the same time. I have definitely never read a book like it ever before. I’ll hopefully get to the review by next weekend and the review will also contain quite a few trigger warnings. It took quite some time for my brain to process this book.

Release by Patrick Ness 

Another book that I received in the subscription box. It was my first book by Patrick Ness. The story has two parallel tracks and while the main track remained quite boring (for me), the slightly paranormal side track was interesting. But by the end, I kinda liked this book. I liked how the stories wrapped up but the journey itself wasn’t very exciting. Overall, it’s nothing exceptional (this might be because of my own issues with YA) but it was a decent read and I don’t regret reading it.

 

Only Dead On The Inside by James Breakwell 

This was an eARC I requested on NetGalley and it lived up to my expectations.
